Teenage charged with murder after prank ends in woman’s death
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a prank involving eggs being thrown at cars escalated into gun threats and a woman’s death.
Houston police said a four-wheel drive the teenager was driving was filled with teenagers who were throwing eggs at other cars on Tuesday afternoon when another driver began chasing them and allegedly displaying a semi-automatic handgun.
The 14-year-old driver then ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle, killing 45-year-old woman Silvia Zavala, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says Ms Zavala had just been shopping and was “totally innocent”.
Sheriff Gonzalez said the 14-year-old, whose ankle was broken in the crash, was booked in a juvenile detention centre on a murder charge.
He said police would interview the driver of the car that chased the teens.
