Yulia Skripal has been discharged from a British hospital, according to British media reports, just over a month after being poisoned with a nerve agent along with her father Sergei, a former Russian double agent.

Key points:

  • Ms Skripal was discharged from hospital late on Monday
  • Both father and daughter were in a critical condition for weeks but are now recovering
  • Britain accuses the Russian Government of masterminding the attack

BBC News said 33-year-old Ms Skripal was discharged from hospital late on Monday and taken to a “secure” location.

Britain’s Press Association said hospital officials plan to make an official statement shortly.

The British Government is likely to keep details about her location secret given the sensitivity of the case.

The Skripals were found unconscious on a bench on March 4 in the southern English city of Salisbury, and were both in a critical condition for weeks until their health began to improve rapidly.

Her father, former Russian spy Sergei Skripal, remains hospitalised but officials said his condition is improving.

Ms Skirpal released her first public statement since the attack on Friday.

“I woke up over a week ago now and am glad to say my strength is growing daily,” Ms Skripal said in a statement issued by London police.

“I am sure you appreciate that the entire episode is somewhat disorientating, and I hope that you’ll respect my privacy and that of my family during the period of my convalescence.”

Britain has accused the Russian Government of masterminding the attack.

Britain said the Skripals were poisoned by a military grade nerve agent that could only have been made in Russia.

Russia has denied the allegation, which has led to the expulsion of diplomats on both sides, plunging international relations into a post-Cold War low.

Britain has been backed by Australia, the United States and its European allies in blaming Russia for the assault.
