RaceDay Focus Sale Monday meeting, Michael Manley’s best bets

0

After a promising performance last spring, Master Rock looks primed for his next event while Illustrious Lad has also run well in good company.

BEST BET

MASTER ROCK (R2, No. 4)

Subject of a big spruik last spring but each time this Fastnet Rock colt led and faded to finish third in reasonable company. Showed enough though and if he can live up to the ability he showed in his trials before his races he should return a winner.

NEXT BEST

ILLUSTRIOUS LAD (R8, No. 2)

Hasn’t been far away in good fields recently. This is easier and looks an ideal opportunity for him to bounce back.

SPALDING COVE (R5, No. 4)

Looked good running down Gasworx to win at Caulfield last start. That was a Benchmark 64 but this Benchmark 70 isn’t any stronger.

THE TRAINER

ROBBIE LAING: HERE’S ALWYN (R1, No. 8)

“Great big son of Polanski. His first-up run at Yarra Glen over 1200m was good and then he was slowly away and run on well in a stronger race at Sandown over 1600m. He’ll relish the 2200m.”

MASTER ROCK (R2, No. 4)

“He trialled like Phar Lap but each time he went to the races he went too fiercely and finished third each time in good fields. He’s been working well and should go close.”

ZOUMANOR (R7, No. 9)

“Won first-up last time in. He was slow to begin at his next two starts. He’s a great chance.”
