  • HEO7 $82, 684 – $91,135 per annum plus up to 17% superannuation
  • Based at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus

About the role The Student Wellbeing unit provides a range of strategic, service and program outcomes to the University across specialist counselling, disability, equality, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing functions. This unit delivers high quality, consistent and equitable services to address the emotional, psychological and physical welfare of University students. Reporting to the Manager of Counselling. Responsibilities will include:

  • Individual counselling with LGBTIQA+ students experiencing complex psychosocial and mental health issues. Generalist counselling with other students, as required
  • Co-facilitating a weekly social and support group for LGBTIQA+ students, including creating content for the group and continuous improvement
  • Navigating complex boundary and ethical issues arising from working in the queer community and with a peer model in the group
  • Creating and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders both internal and external to the university, and consulting with other LGBTIQA+ organisations and groups about best practice
  • Facilitating consultation of queer peers with other staff and the wider university to make the Counselling Service and the university more accessible and safe for LGBTIQA+ people

Skills & Experience To be successful you will have:

  • Qualifications in Psychology or Social Work, and full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia or membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • In-depth knowledge of issues impacting LGBTIQA+ people, including barriers to accessing mental health services
  • Extensive experience, post-qualification, in assessment and therapeutic intervention of complex cognitive, emotional, mental health and developmental issues amongst a diverse client group
  • Experience in facilitating groups and planning content in groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small teams
