A Queensland police officer has shot dead a prisoner under guard at Ipswich Hospital, west of Brisbane.
Authorities said two officers were on duty guarding the man in a room at the hospital, when he allegedly became violent towards one of them and was shot about 9:00pm on Saturday.
Police said the prisoner was treated by medical staff but died a short time later.
Authorities are yet to release the man’s name and age.
A female police officer involved in the shooting has been treated for facial injuries.
Police Superintendent Katherine Innes said few details were being released at this stage.
“Ethical Standards Command is investigating in conjunction with the state coroner, which will be overviewed by the Crime and Corruption Commission,” she said.
