The attack is alleged to have happened on Thursday afternoon about 3:25pm in Salisbury North.
The alarm was raised after a neighbour heard screaming.
The man, from Waterloo Corner north of Adelaide, was arrested at his home address and will be charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and sexual assault.
He will also be charged with aggravated assault of a police officer after allegedly assaulting a detective while being arrested.
Earlier, police released a physical description of the man and described the alleged incident as “disturbing” and had left the 20-year-old victim significantly traumatised.
“The victim screamed and a neighbour came to her assistance,” Detective Chief Inspector Denise Gray said.
Children at home during the assault
The assault occurred while the woman’s two young children were at home, but police do not know if they witnessed the alleged attack.
“At this stage we’re not sure because they’re of tender age,” Chief Inspector Gray said.

Chief Inspector Gray said the woman was “obviously traumatised”.
“She’s asked for her privacy, as you can imagine,” she said.
Police had increased patrols in the area.
“Obviously this causes significant community concern and police are highly aware of that. That’s why we increase patrols around the area,” she said.
“My advice to any person is to take care of their own security, obviously lock your doors, don’t walk out late at night and make efforts to keep yourself safe.”
When asked whether it was appropriate to offer advice about staying indoors, the chief inspector said she did not think it was “a gender issue at all”.
“The whole of the community can be vulnerable at any particular time,” she said.
The man will be refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
