Planes and boats search for missing kite surfer Matthew Wing off Geraldton
A major police search operation is underway for an experienced kite surfer who has been missing off Western Australia’s Mid West coast since Friday afternoon.
Matthew Wing, 48, had been planning to kite surf towards Coronation Beach, north of Geraldton, but failed to arrive.
He was last seen at Drummond Cove, about 10 kilometres north of Geraldton, earlier in the afternoon.
Police described Mr Wing as an experienced kite surfer who was visiting the Geraldton area with friends.
It is understood Mr Wing is originally from Hobart but now lives in Perth.

A large-scale search operation is continuing this morning, with spotter planes and helicopters called in to assist with that effort.
Police and State Emergency Services volunteers are also searching on land for Mr Wing, with several boats involved in a marine search.
Police have requested anyone who spots debris in the area to contact them, with a command post set up at Drummond Cove Beach.
Social media posts show Mr Wing is an enthusiastic kite surfer and ocean user and that he was in Geraldton for the Christmas period.
