One dead, six injured in Strasbourg Christmas market shooting; gunman on the run
One person has been killed and six others injured in a shooting near a Christmas market in Strasbourg in eastern France.
Police sources said the gunman is on the run.
“There were gun shots and people running everywhere,” one local shopkeeper told BFM TV.
“It lasted about 10 minutes.”
The French Interior Ministry called on the public to remain indoors amid a “serious security event” in the city centre.
France remains on high alert after suffering a wave of attacks commissioned or inspired by Islamic State militants in 2015 and 2016, which killed more than 200 people.
More to come.
