The Chief Judge of the NSW Land and Environment Court who blocked a coal mine due to climate change founded an eco-group of activist lawyers that helped win the case.

Chief Judge Brian Preston handed down the decision on Friday, which blocked the creation of the coal mine near Gloucester in the Hunter Valley, citing climate change as one of the key reasons for its rejection.

Ben Fordham told Sky News that if there is a situation where a judge ‘ has played a role in helping a group of lawyers set up their activist group’ it should be declared.
