Motorcyclist dead after Leach Highway crash in Welshpool involving suspected wanted car
A man in his 20s has died following a crash which is believed to have involved a car being sought by police in Perth’s southern suburbs.
The motorcyclist came off his bike in a crash on Leach Highway in Welshpool overnight.
It is understood the car involved was not only being sought by police but may have been driving on the wrong side of the road.
The motorcyclist was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in an ambulance about 12:30am but could not be saved.
It is not yet clear if police were actively pursuing the car when the crash occurred.
Leach Highway was closed in both directions from Welshpool Road to Albany Highway in the wake of the accident.
A large police presence remained at the scene this morning, stretching more than 20 metres across both lanes of the highway.
