Man walking on Belconnen Way becomes first fatality on Canberra roads for 2019 after being hit by car

A man has died after being hit by a car on Belconnen Way in Canberra’s north on Friday night.
- The man is the first person to die on ACT roads this year
- It is not known exactly how the collision occurred
- Police did not disclose the man’s age or identity
ACT police said the man was a pedestrian and a car collided with him about 8:00pm.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.
Police would not disclose the age of the man or how the collision occurred.

On Saturday afternoon, flowers were seen stuck to the lights on the corner of Belconnen Way and Eastern Valley Way, near Canberra High School but on the Westfield Belconnen side of the road.
The death was the ACT’s first road fatality of 2019.
Acting Station Sergeant David Wills said the “tragic incident” was a reminder to take care.
“I would urge all road users to exercise care and caution on our roads during this busy period,” he said.
