Man charged with manslaughter after friend shot dead in forest
A man accused of fatally shooting his friend while “messing around” in a forest south of Adelaide has been charged with manslaughter, just months after a previous charge on him was dropped.
- Bailey Robert Davenport was fatally shot in the head in July, 2017
- His friend, Hayden Dove Fenton, was arrested and charged with manslaughter
- Police said the victim was one of five friends who had taken a gun to the forest
Bailey Robert Davenport, 21, of Hayborough, died after he was shot in the head on Sunday July 23, 2017, in a forest at Parawa.
Hayden Dove Fenton, 29, was initially charged with endangering life regarding the shooting of his friend in 2017, but the prosecution dropped the charge in May this year.
Mr Fenton from the Fleurieu Peninsula was today arrested and charged with manslaughter as well as firearms offences.
Police said the investigation had been ongoing since the initial charges were dropped in May.

Police found weapon in forest
At the time, police said the victim was one of five friends who had taken a gun out to the wilderness area, 40 kilometres west of Victor Harbor, while they chopped wood.
The area is known for deer hunting, which is illegal, but following the incident Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins said the group was “messing around”.
After he was shot, Mr Davenport was driven to the South Coast District Hospital by friends and later flown to the Flinders Medical Centre where he died the following day.
At the time, police said they believed the man was shot with a .22 rifle and found a gun matching that description in the area of forest.
The Adelaide Magistrates Court was expected to hear submissions on why Mr Fenton had “no case to answer” in May this year but the matter was called on a day early and prosecutors announced they would not proceed with the charge.
Mr Fenton has been refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court tomorrow.
