A man has been charged over a hit-and-run crash which left a man dead in Geelong, after he handed himself in to police.

The 27-year-old from the Geelong suburb of Lovely Banks went to a police station last night, after the Major Collision Investigation Unit released CCTV footage and images of a white van with a decal on the side yesterday afternoon.

He has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to render assistance.

He is accused of crashing into a 32-year-old South Geelong man on Yarra Street at about 3:00am on Saturday.

Police said the driver stopped and drove away.

The victim was discovered on the road about 20 minutes later and died at the scene.

The accused man has been remanded in custody to face the Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday.
