Our Opportunity
Thales Underwater Systems (UWS) is a global leader in advanced Sonar systems and for more than fifty years has been responsible for delivering systems to both civilian and military customers.
The Technical Engineer is a member of the UWS Technical Directorate Team that contributes a range of specialist and expert technical skills in sonar systems , architecture, design, development and sonar related technologies that can be drawn upon by R&D, engineering and project teams.
The Technical Engineer provides specialist/expert skills in a particular engineering discipline with the objectives of
ensuring effective technical risk review/management across Underwater Systems;
participating in the development of UWS products by providing guidance in their area of speciality/expertise and often operating as the Project Design Authority (PDA);
providing support to the development of bids;
Responsibilities
Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in their area of specialisation/expertise related to sonar systems architecture, design, development and sonar related technologies
Ensure effective technical risk review/management across Underwater Systems as directed by the Technical Manager
Participate in the development of UWS products by providing guidance in their area of speciality/expertise
Provide support to the development of bids
Where directed, take responsibility (e.g. as Project Design Authority, Special Projects Manager) for a product/system development via Self-Funded R&D or Customer Funded R&D activity;
Where appointed, fulfil the role of Product Line Manager (PLM) responsible for the entire product lifecycle
Provide input into the preparation of the Technical and Innovation Strategic Plan (TISP)
Interact and work with management, project and engineering teams to promote cross-discipline teamwork and the importance of in-depth technical knowledge to the success of UWS
About You
Engineering/Science Degree qualified and able to meet the requirements for membership of IEAust
Demonstrated Specialist/Expert skills in technology areas of relevance to sonar systems architecture, design and development
Minimum 10 years engineering experience in a hardware/software design and development environment
Must have had previous responsibility for the management of significant hardware or software development projects and/or project management of high technical risk development content work packages
Special Requirements
To apply for this role you will ideally hold, or be eligible for a Defence Security Clearance (NV1) therefore Thales need to know if you hold any other passport other than Australian, or have dual citizenship.
