Earlier in the day the two-bedroom weatherboard house was passed in on a lone $400,000 bid.

Price hopes for the house had been $480,000 to $520,000.

“They are first-home buyers coming from interstate,” Ms Winckle said.

“They chose Belmont because it was affordable compared to other suburbs like East Geelong and Geelong West.”

The 1960s house is on a 595sq m block and lends itself to a renovation or extension.

It has an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room, two bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a two-car garage at the rear.

“It’s a beautiful character street and a large parcel of land that has potential written all over it,” Ms Winckle said.
