A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a body, believed to be missing mother-of-two Fahima Yusuf, was discovered in the backyard of a Perth house.

The body was found at the Carlisle property on Wednesday and has not yet been formally identified, but police said they believed it was 32-year-old Ms Yusuf.

Ahmed Seedat, 36, who police said was known to the woman, was charged with murder after the discovery.

Dozens of forensic investigators descended on the Weston Street property early on Wednesday morning and established a large crime scene.

Areas of the backyard were dug up as part of the investigation.

“The residence has been searched and a deceased person has been located in the rear yard. The deceased person is believed to be Ms Yusuf,” a police spokesman said.

“Homicide Squad detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident, and would like to speak to anyone who spoke to Ms Yusuf in recent weeks.”

Police forensic officers worked through the night at the house and a coroner’s van was seen leaving the property.
