Brisbane man charged over ‘terrible smell’ wheelie bin murder, body found after days in sun
Police have now charged two men with the murder of another man, Kym Mitchell, whose body was found stuffed inside a wheelie bin on Brisbane’s southside.
Officers made the grim discovery at a Yeronga Street unit complex at Yeronga on Saturday night.
Police said there was a “good response from the community” following a request for help to find four people police believed may have been involved.
Yeronga man Adam John Charles Evans was charged with murder and appeared briefly in the Brisbane Magistrates Court, where he was remanded in custody.
On Monday afternoon, police charged a second man with murder.
Police alleged Mr Mitchell, 61, of Yeronga, was killed “on or about November 26” at Yeronga.
A 23-year-old woman is still being interviewed by police.
A 27-year-old woman has been released without charge.
Police were called to investigate after neighbours complained of a bad smell in the area.
Police declared a crime scene at the house and multiple other locations as detectives worked to determine the cause of death.
Police said Mr Mitchell was not a resident of the Yeronga Street unit complex.
Joel Rivett, who was staying with a friend who lives at the unit complex, came across the body in the bin after the smell started to come into his friend’s apartment.

“Just a terrible smell for a couple of days, and I went over to the bin where my mate found it, obviously just a suspicious thing going on,” Mr Rivett said.
“So I lifted the bin and there was a couple of black bags in there. So it didn’t smell too right, so we called the real estate [agent] and this is what’s happened now.
“I’ve worked out in the bush before and smelt dead roos in the sun, and couldn’t even compare to that. I’d rather stick my nose in the carcass, than that.”
Investigations into Mr Mitchell’s killing are still underway.
