Aggravated carjacking and police assault charges follow car incidents across Hobart
A man has been charged after allegedly driving through a crash scene and attempting to hit a police officer during a series of incidents across Hobart.
Police say the driver of a white hatchback with three occupants was driving erratically and evading police in Glenorchy about 1:00pm on Thursday.
About an hour later a car sped through the scene of a separate single vehicle crash on Grass Tree Hill Road at Risdon, with the driver allegedly attempting to hit a police officer.
Two men were arrested when the car stopped soon after at Sorell.
Police allege the third man stole a car and “drove dangerously” along the Tasman Highway, across the Tasman Bridge, and through Glenorchy, before crashing into a car at the intersection of Derwent Park Road and Gormanston Road.
A man fled the crash scene and was arrested later that evening.
A 35-year-old has been charged with aggravated carjacking, evading police with an aggravated circumstance, dangerous driving, assaulting police and disqualified driving.
He has been detained and will appear in court today.
Tasmania Police turned to Facebook on Thursday afternoon to locate dash cam or smart phone footage of what they described as two dangerous driving incidents across multiple suburbs.
